Getting ready for adventure

As we sail toward the Arctic Circle, take time to familiarize yourself with the AECO guidelines for responsible operations and landings in the delicate Arctic ecosystem. Attendance at these mandatory presentations is essential if you wish to participate in upcoming landings as we journey north.

Settle into the comfort of the ship’s state-of-the-art facilities and enjoy the first lectures on Greenland, including exciting Citizen Science projects available onboard.

During the voyage, we will cross the Arctic Circle, marking our entry into the land of the Midnight Sun, where endless daylight illuminates the breathtaking beauty of summer in the Arctic.

Day 4

UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord

See the jaw-dropping beauty of nature’s artworks

Today, we arrive at Disko Bay, a paradise for wildlife and a stunning showcase of nature's artistry. The bay is dotted with icebergs of all shapes and sizes, all originating from the Ilulissat Icefjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site often hailed as a must-see in Greenland. You'll soon understand why as you walk the wooden gangway to the awe-inspiring fjord.

Gaze in wonder at massive icebergs drifting serenely in the deep blue waters, their surfaces shimmering in shades of white, gray, and blue. Whether you're a seasoned photographer or a beginner, you'll capture images that will be the envy of all.

In charming Ilulissat, visit the Icefjord Centre to delve deeper into the fascinating world of ice, or hike to Sermermiut for breathtaking views that will leave you speechless.

Day 5 - 6

Exploring Uummannaq Fjord day5 6.jpg

Exploring Uummannaq Fjord

Deep dive into Arctic life

As we venture beyond the Nuussuaq Peninsula, we enter Greenland’s ‘Far North,’ where distances grow vast, and life slows to the rhythm of nature. Here, weather and ice conditions dictate our journey, and every landing depends on the captain’s skill to navigate safely—especially when summer fog blankets the waterways. It’s the perfect setting for an authentic Arctic expedition.

This region’s striking landscapes and relatively rich environment have drawn settlers for over 4,000 years. Silent archaeological sites testify to the resilience of Arctic communities, including the famed Qilakitsoq mummies discovered in this area.

Potential activities include visiting quaint communities like Uummannaq, known for its iconic heart-shaped mountain, or Ukkusissat. You may explore the archaeological site of Qilakitsoq, enjoy nature landings, or embark on thrilling ice-cruising adventures in the fjords aboard small RIB boats.

Day 7 -9

Beautiful ice sculptures of Disko Bay

Get closer to the awesome power of nature

Grandeur defines Disko Bay, a dream destination for adventurers and nature lovers alike. Its deep blue waters are dotted with icebergs of all shapes and sizes, some weighing over seven million tons. The Ilulissat Icefjord produces more glacial ice in a single day than New York City consumes in water annually—a true testament to nature's power.

This region offers a blend of traditional communities, vast glaciers, and untouched wilderness. Over the coming days, we’ll explore the wonders of Disko Bay, including Vaigat Sound, Disko Island, and the eastern fjords. Flexibility is key, as weather and ice conditions will shape our journey.

Expect thrilling nature landings in small boats (RIBs), weaving through ice floes and spotting whales from the deck. Listen to fascinating talks by the Expedition Team, and on landings, keep an eye out for reindeer herds, swift Arctic foxes, or the striking gyrfalcon. Nature’s majesty awaits at every turn.

Day 10 - 11

Landscapes and communities of West Greenland

Visit modern towns on the edge of the wilderness

Greenland’s central west coast is a region of stunning contrasts. Here, some of the country’s longest fjords meet scattered settlements, including Greenland’s second-largest town. Despite its size, this area remains sparsely populated, with vast landscapes and a profound sense of remoteness defining daily life.

As we journey south, we’ll visit communities where ancient traditions endure. Sisimiut, located 25 miles north of the Arctic Circle, is a modern town built alongside ancient remains over 4,000 years old. Explore the local museum to delve into the fascinating Saqqaq culture, or browse for unique souvenirs like scarves, hats, or mittens made from qiviut—the ultra-warm inner wool of the musk ox, prized for being 10 times warmer than sheep wool.

Day 12

End of expedition in Nuuk

A small capital in a grandiose setting

Today, we arrive in Nuuk, Greenland's vibrant capital, where you’ll bid farewell to MS Fridtjof Nansen, her dedicated crew, the Expedition Team, and the friends you’ve made during this incredible journey. Compared to the towns you’ve visited over the past weeks, Nuuk feels like a bustling metropolis and offers a fascinating glimpse into modern Greenlandic life.

Before your flight back to Reykjavík, take some time to explore this lively city. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories and stories of your Arctic adventure that will stay with you forever.
